Movie Review : One Day

Okay, this is my first post and i want to write something that i'm good at, and absolutely yeah, movie. i'm not saying that i'm a movie expert or professional movie reviewer. actually, i just wanna share about the movie and some experiences that i gain while watching it.
Firstly, please kindly ignore my bad English. it had been a long time since i write my last English essay. i used to write a lot during my high school and all thanks to my English teacher for stressing us with tons of speeches and essay. i do believe that my English is turning dramatically poor after entering university and work. well, batam is still a developing city, we can't insist them to use English in daily life. so, my Bahasa Indonesia improved! (yeah, at least something improve --")

okay, back to the topic.
One day is a 2011 movie directed by Lone Scherfi which is based from a novel with the same title written by David Nicholls. The movie stars Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess as Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew, this romance story starts from their graduation night until their mid age (for 23 years long).
This sounds weird right? for a couple to understand their feelings toward each other but... yeah who knows? not everyone could find their soul mate on first sight.
Then the most exciting part from the movie is the promise that both characters made to meet each other every year on July 15th. isn't it cool??? isn't it sweet??? even if this is not related to romance i think this kind of friendship is very precious. Sometimes not every friendship could stay these long.

I love the all the nostalgic part in this movie: the dawn in Edinburgh where Dexter and Emma first met, the Author Seat in Scotland where they mock each other and telling both of them to not fall in love and lot lot more *-*

Here is the few scene in the movie:

Emma : we could go for a walk or something?
Dexter : Okay.
Emma :  Come on, keep up.
Dexter :  It's these shoes. I can't mountain climb in brogues.
Emma :  It's not Mountain. It's just a big hill, all right? A child could do it.
*Emma was walking up the hills while Dexter moves slowly behind her.*
Emma :  I don't want you thinking I'm bothered or anything about last night. I don't want your phone number, or letters, or postcards. I don't want to get married to you. Definitely don't want to have your babies.Whatever happens tomorrow, we've had today. And if we should bump into each other sometime in the future, well, that's fine, too.
This scene is when they are in a holiday and Dexter is trying to apply some sun block for Emma. Emma is sooooo beautiful that i can't take my eyes off her.
Well, a little night out looks pretty good, not until the fall out. in this scene Dexter and Emma are already in their 30's. while Emma is having difficulties with her boyfriend, Ian, Dexter is encountering a huge spin over in his career and family.

Well, that's hurt.

I totally love the look of Jim in this scene, so charismatic with a little mix of boyish smile XD

They meet each other again in one of their friend wedding, Emma is getting more and more feminism and gorgeous.

Okay here's the part that hurts me the most. Dexter telling Emma that he's going to be a father soon and he's inviting her to his wedding.
You could see how hurts Emma is when she hear it from Dexter, her eyes is watery and the smile that she gave to Dexter while congratulating him. I could feel the clench on my lungs which i had to force myself to relax and keep myself breathing in order to stop me on the urge of slapping him
(hahahahahah, pardon me for my violence behavior i just can't help).
Jim looks so cute with the baby

Wait... wait... wait... moving too fast? hahahaha i'm skipping the story of Dexter broken marriage and just flash to the epic of the story! the confession and passionate kiss and this and that ^-^
Okay, so they get married and live happily ever after. Well, not really. Life still go on and world still spinning.

On 15 July 2006, Emma is hit by a truck and dies. Obviously, Dexter is the most desperate one.
Dexter becomes inconsolable and self-destructive, and is particularly desolate each year on 15 July. Over the years he gets support from his ex-wife Sylvie, their daughter Jasmine, his widowed father, and even from Emma's old boyfriend, Ian, who also mourns Emma every year on 15 July.
So, on the end of the movie, Dexter brought jasmine to visit the Arthur's seat. While there, he remembers a visit he and Emma made to Arthur's Seat together in 1988, as well as the events of the morning after their first meeting on 15 July 1988 – including their promise to one another to be friends.
Honestly, the twist in the story is so fast that sometimes I'm missing one or two precious moment of it. My habit of watching  movie is like this : i would watch a movie once to know the whole story of it, then i would re-watch the movie again, concentrating on the people's emotion and expression and those small things inside the movie. And then re-watching and re-watching again. haha This sounds like crazy-chick-flicks-lover-disorder right? but I'm still doing it until now ^-^

i do believe that Emma has no regret on loving Dexter. even thought they didn't grow old together, but their love is preserve in their most beautiful time.

P.s : If it's possible, I'll try to read the novel and write the review. Hopefully i could find the book when i go to Singapore.
